Seamount soccer teams concluded the regular season last night. Here is a roundup of how they finished with a look at the postseason.
Hazen
The Highlanders beat Tyee 10-0 last night to conclude the regular season.
Hazen (10-6-1 overall, 10-5-1) finished in fourth place guaranteeing a trip to the district tournament regardless how how the team plays in sub-districts.
The Highlanders will face the SPSL 3A’s fourth place team (currently Sumner) Nov. 4 at 5:30 p.m. at Renton Stadium.
Hazen fell to Kennedy Catholic 7-2 Tuesday in a strong effort. It was the first league game in which Kennedy has allowed multiple goals.
“The girls were playing such good soccer,” said Hazen coach Ken Matthews. “They stood up to Kennedy and didn’t give an inch. You could see that the Kennedy players were getting frustrated because we were denying them the ball, taking it from them and playing even with them.”
Hazen scored three goals against Kennedy in two games this year, the only three goals the undefeated Lancers allowed in league play.
Kayla Hackman led the team (and the Seamount) with 28 goals. She added eight assists. Taylor Hoover had 13 goals and eight assists. Lexi Garvin had seven goals and 11 assists.
Matthews likes how his team looks heading into the postseason.
“Probably just like many other coaches, I certainly would like for the season to be just starting,” Matthews said. “We made two huge adjustments to our game during the season. In both the formation change and the switch to an attacking fast paced game, the girls adjusted very well. I’ve never been a big believer in the ‘peak at the right time’ approach to a season. I wouldn’t say we’re peaking now, I want to think we’re hitting our stride just at the right time.”
Lindbergh
The Eagles topped Evergreen 7-0 to end the regular season with a second-straight win.
Lindbergh (11-3-2, 11-3-2) finish in second place in the Seamount and will move on to the district tournament regardless of how it performs in sub-districts Nov. 4.
Nicole Burnette led the team with 19 goals and seven assists. Jami Kouba had eight goal and seven assists. Jordyn McLuen had five goals and 12 assists.
Renton
The Indians fell to Highline 4-0 to end the season.
Renton (4-12, 4-12) had won two straight games before the Highline contest.
Briona Harrington and Rose Lindsey each had four goals for Renton. Zhane Turner scored three.
