The Rotary Club of Renton is seeking donations for and selling tickets to its annual CAPER auction March 21 – the biggest auction in the city of Renton that raises much-needed financial support for local charitable organizations.
And that’s not all.
The other big goal of the auction is to raise enough funds to distribute free dictionaries to every third-grade student in Renton.
The theme of this year’s auction, held at the Renton Community Center, is “3-2-1 Give.”
The auction has everything, from works by local artists to all kinds of experiences, including for families, according to auction chair, Terry Higashiyama, who is the City of Renton Community Services director.
The silent and oral auctions will fit any budget, including those who may be looking for a trip to such travel destinations as Palm Springs.
New this year is the Golden Raffle. The Rotarians are selling 100 tickets at $100 each. The winner of the raffle gets to pick one item from the oral auction before it begins.
“That gives us a quick $10,000,”Higashiyama said.
Of course, there’s the popular $5 raffle tickets. The winner gets to choose either $5,000 in cash or a $5,000 cruise. Those tickets are sold by individual Rotarians.
CAPER stands for “Community Auction Promoting the Endeavors of Rotary.”
The Rotary Club of Renton buys more than 1,000 coats for kids every fall, gives the free dictionaries to third graders, provides college scholarships to local Renton high school students and sponsors an international youth exchange program.
The co-sponsors of the 2009 CAPER auction include First Savings Bank of Renton, Valley Medical Center, Puget Sound Energy, the City of Renton and Renton Coil Spring Co.
