POLICE BLOTTER: Woman caught in Craigslist scam

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports.

A 19-year-old woman got duped in a Craigslist scam and reported it to police March 26.

The Renton woman told police she answered an ad for a security company in January. She gave the company her name, date of birth, multiple addresses and a phone number when corresponding about the job. It was a telemarketing position and she noticed the emails were written with bad grammar and punctuation.

This led her to believe the suspect was actually in another country or hiding a true identity. Her suspicions were confirmed when the suspect began calling her and harassing her, using lewd and sexual language. They also requested photos of her.

Police advised the woman to change her phone number or have restricted calls blocked from her phone.

Woman arrested after she tries to thwart police

A 41-year-old, Federal Way woman resisted arrest after she was pulled over March 31 for driving with a suspended or revoked license.

The incident happened just before 8 a.m. When asked for her identification, she gave police sketchy information. When asked for her insurance and other vehicle information, she gave officers a stack of paperwork that read “The Osiris 3rd Dynasty Washitaw Mu’ur of America Land Transport Recording” and “Real Property Record of Vessel Ownership.”

She admitted to police she was driving with a suspended or revoked license, but she also became confrontational. She refused to hand over her driver’s license and attempted to lock police out of her car, while she was in it.

They gained entry and took 30 to 60 seconds freeing her from the car and handcuffing her.

She was arrested for investigation of driving with a suspended or revoked license and resisting arrest.

Airsoft gun recovered after shots reported

Police recovered an airsoft gun after suspicious gunfire was heard around the 200 block of South Second Street at about 9 p.m. on March 22.

Someone who heard the gun shots flagged down police after they had already been dispatched to the area. The witness said he heard the shots from his apartment and looked outside to see males running eastbound through the apartment complex parking lot. Then they ran southbound on Shattuck. One of the suspects then jumped behind some bushes for a short time before rejoining his friends on the street.

Police did a check of that same area with a K-9 unit and discovered the gun. They also found .22 caliber casings.

Several other witnesses reported seeing a dark colored Ford Taurus driving through the area before the shooting. The occupants were flashing gang signs and yelling at other suspected gang members who were on foot in the area. The car was also seen parked near where the shell casings were located just before the shots were fired.
