Basketball roundups: Liberty girls, Hazen girls, Renton boys start season with wins

Boys

Renton held Bellevue Christian scoreless in the first quarter on the way to a 57-38 season-opening win on Dec. 4.

Achokie Moikobu led the Indians with 20 points. Joseph Holifield added 16 points.

It was a non-league game for Renton.

The Eagles lost in the season-opener 77-71 to Lincoln on Dec. 2. Demarr Ferguson led the team in scoring with 16 points. Willie Creear scored 14. Allie and Derrick Roseboro each scored 10.

Lindbergh fell again on Dec. 3 65-44 to Auburn. Dallas Searles scored 12 and Creear scored 11.

Both contests were non-league games.

Hazen lost to Eastside Catholic in a non-league game 54-43 Dec. 2. Hazen fell behind 18-4 after the first quarter but battled back to be within one point through three quarters.

Caleb Frary led the Highlanders with 15 points. R.J. Magar scored 10.

Liberty fell to Ingraham 62-42 in the season-opener for the Patriots Dec. 3. Eric Peterson led Liberty with 16 points.

Girls

The Eagles fell in their season opener against Kentridge 43-36 on Dec. 2.

Marcissa McMillan led the way for Lindbergh with 21 points, 10 rebounds and seven blocks. Emily Graver added six points. Jordan Halingstad and Brandi Lindsay each had seven rebounds.

Hazen edged Kentridge 51-48 in a non-league season-opener Dec. 1. Freshman Airashay Rogers scored 19 points for the Highlanders. Brittany Phillio and Darralita Taylor each scored nine.

Liberty started the season 2-0 with a 67-55 win over Tahoma Dec. 1 and a 56-47 win over Lynwood Dec. 3.

Corinna Van Hurston led the Patriots in scoring against Tahoma with 23 points. Breeanne Faebarich led the team against Lynwood with 16.
