UPDATE AS OF 4:30 P.M.:
Renton police officers Thursday afternoon were conducting an extensive search just north of Fairwood in the area of 140th Avenue Southeast just before the Maple Valley Highway for a man who ran from police following a report of a burglary in the neighborhood.
According to Detective Robert Onishi, police received a report from a citizen about an apparent burglary in progress at a neighbor’s house. The caller heard glass break but did not get a good look at the burglar.
Police were able to confirm the house had been forcibly entered but did not see a suspect.
Soon after, a second call of someone running through the neighborhood came through. Police located and contacted that individual, but during the contact, Onishi said the man suddenly took off running, prompting the search, which involved a K-9 unit.
At one point the man apparently jumped 30 feet into a large growth of blackberries.
Police set up a perimeter at key intersections, including at State Route 169 at the bottom of the hill.
Onishi said police were unable to locate the suspect, but he has been identified, though his connection to the burglary is still unknown.
Police continue to investigate.
