The Culinary Arts and Baking students at Renton Technical College (RTC), won the American Culinary Federation’s State Junior Hot Food Team Championship on Feb. 28.
The event was held at South Seattle Community College with three teams participating, Renton Technical College, South Seattle Community College and Bellingham Technical College.
The students had 75 minutes to prepare and cook a four-course meal and 15 minutes to plate it. The team is made up of six students, four who cook and two alternates.
Wendy Lai, graduate of the Professional Baking program, received a perfect score on her dessert. The team has been practicing since last October and is now getting ready for regionals, in which it will compete against nine other teams April 4 and 5.
The team is guided by chef instructors John Fisher and Michael McBride.
