Two spots open on arts commission

The City of Renton is seeking candidates for two positions on the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.

The City of Renton is seeking candidates for two positions on the Renton Municipal Arts Commission.

The members will be appointed by the mayor and confirmed by the City Council to serve three-year terms. The volunteer members need not live inside Renton.

The 12-member commission is responsible for promoting and celebrating art and culture in Renton. The board acts by:

• Supporting cultural arts performances and arts related organizations through annual financial assistance awards.

• Developing a Five-Year Master Plan for Arts and Culture.

• Reviewing design, execution and acceptance of works of art funded orotherwise acquired by the city. Recommending selection of appropriate work of art for 1 percent for Art projects.

The commission meets at Renton City Hall, 1055 S. Grady Way, at 8 a.m. on the first Wednesday of each month.

To be considered for appointment to the board, applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on May 30, 2008.
