Renton shows growth with more offensive firepower | Soccer

It’s all about baby steps. Six goals may not seem like a lot, but Renton’s 2010 scoring is more than the Indians had in the previous two seasons combined.

It’s all about baby steps. Six goals may not seem like a lot, but Renton’s 2010 scoring is more than the Indians had in the previous two seasons combined.

“We’re better and stronger team than last year,” said Renton co-coach Andrea Anderson. “We have more offensive firepower and our scores have been balanced.”

The Indians’ strength is in the midfield. Omar Martinez, Andrew Tebandeke, Jorge Rosas and Alejandro Reyes form the core of Renton’s midfield group. All four have scored already this season.

Cristian Martinez and Ahmed Ahmed are keys for the team at forward. Ahmed leads the team with two goals.

Some of the positive notes for Renton this season include a 2-1 win against Lindbergh March 31. The Indians also led Foster 2-0 until the Bulldogs scored four times in the final 20 minutes.

Anderson said the game was a great learning experience for the eam. “We need to figure out how to actually finish a game.”

She said Renton should compete with Tyee, Foster and Lindbergh in the second half of the season. The Indians played to a 1-1 tie against Tyee April 19.

Renton knows it’s a step or two behind the elite Seamount teams. Because of that the Indians are trying to go into games against those teams with a spoiler attitude.

“I just say to them, ‘These teams, they think they’re going to beat you, they know they’re going to beat you, so just make it very difficult for them,’” Anderson said.
