Renton School Board to interview three candidates for vacant seat Tuesday

Three Renton residents have applied to fill the Renton School Board seat vacated when long-time board member Marcie Maxwell resigned after her election in November to the state House of Representatives.

The three candidates are:

• Pam Teal, Renton Parent Teacher Association Council president and legislative chair. She also serves as chair of the Education Committee for the Renton Chamber of Commerce.

• Kirby Bowser, controller and chief financial officer for Junior Achievement of Washington. He is a graduate of Western Washington University with bachelor of arts and a bachelor of science degrees.

• James Grossnickle, a research scientist at the University of Washington with a Ph.D. in Plasma Physics from the UW.

Three applicants will be interviewed in a public meeting of the board at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the commons at Renton High School, 400 S. Second Street, Renton.

The new board member will be appointed at the Jan. 28 School Board meeting.The new member will serve the last year of Maxwell’s term, through December. Then interested candidates will campaign for the seat.

The Board of Director No. 5 position includes the northern end of the school district.
