Justin Bennett runs fastest 100 in state; Renton, Liberty shine at Shoreline | Track & field

Justin Bennett makes a quick impression. The Renton senior led the Indians to a sixth-place finish at the loaded Shoreline Invitational April 30.

Renton scored 34 points, just behind North Central and Liberty, who tied for fourth with 37 points.

Bennett beat Wenatchee freshman Isaiah Brandt-Sims by 0.04 seconds to win the 100-meter dash. Bennett’s tim of 10.68 seconds  is now the best in Washington for the season among all classifications. He’s just barely ahead of Kennedy Catholic’s Darian Brooks at 10.69 seconds. It is the fifth meet Bennett has run a sub-11.00 time this season.

Bennett was also part of Renton’s winning 4 X 100 relay team, along with P.J. Benedictus, Robert Reeves III and Immanuel Carter. The team ran a time of 42.71 seconds, third-fastest in Washington so far this year (0.03 seconds behind the leader).

Benedictus nailed down two other top-three finishes with second place in the high jump and third in the long jump. Carter also took ninth in the long jump.

Adriel Paine IV took ninth in the 800 and Aslan DaVault finished 10th in the 3,200.

 

Liberty

Junior Josh Gordon and senior Devin Bennett led the Patriots. Gordon took second in the long jump and third in the high jump. He also finished eighth in the 100 and was part of Liberty’s third-place 4 X 400 relay team (Bennett, Gordon, Hamilton Noel and Hiron Redmon).

Bennett finished second in the triple jump and placed fifth in the 400. Redmon took fifth in the 800. Craig Werre finished 10th in the javelin.

 

Lindbergh

Lindbergh finished 25th with 11 points. Mohamud Abdi, Mitchell Hughey, Nathan Haley and Luke Garcia teamed to take fourth in the distance medley.

 

Hazen

Hazen tied with Woodinville and Archbishop Murphy for 31st place with eight points. Senior Kyle Martin led the way with a sixth-place finish in the pole vault.
