POLICE BLOTTER: Seattle man steals $600 in merchandise from Fry’s

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police.

A Seattle man stole more than $600 worth of merchandise from Fry’s Electronics on Dec. 17.

The 36-year-old male was seen concealing computer equipment on his body and then trying to exit the store,800 Garden Ave. N. in Renton.

Loss-prevention officers confronted the man at the front of the store. Police met with the man around 11 p.m., who offered that the security censors were easy to remove.

He was cited by police for investigation of theft and trespassed from the store.

Bartender knocked out cold

A bartender at Trophie’s Tavern in Renton got knocked out cold on Dec. 10.

The 45-year-old bartender was not working at the time but came by the bar to see how things were going. When police arrived to the establishment, 247 Park Ave. N., around midnight, he had been passed out on the dance floor for five minutes.

When he came to, he admitted he had “a lot” to drink and had been in an argument with a patron. The other male was supposedly giving the man a hard time about being a white bartender in the establishment. The bartender told police he decided he wasn’t going to “take any crap,” so he followed the man to the dance floor and threw a punch at him. The next thing he remembered was waking up on the floor, he didn’t see who hit him. The man declined medical treatment and pursuing criminal charges.

Woman wrongly accused of stealing beer

A Seattle woman was wrongfully accused of shoplifting beer in a Renton Safeway on Dec. 14.

Around 2:30 p.m., police were called to a fight in the Safeway parking lot at 200 S. Third St. When they arrived, they couldn’t find one. Instead, two loss-prevention officers alerted them to the 19-year-old woman, whom they said they observed stealing from the store. According to the officers, she placed a six-pack of beer in her large black purse.

The woman said she was in the store buying greeting cards, to which she showed the police officers her receipts and cards. She said when she left the store, she was approached by two men, who told her she stole the beer and tried to grab her purse.

Police checked the purse and found no beer. Later, one of the loss- prevention officers admitted he didn’t actually she her put the beer in her bag. He observed her pick up the beer and when he turned back around to her, her purse looked larger.

Wife on drugs; husband unregistered sex offender

A 23-year-old Renton woman was treated for consuming drugs, while her husband was noted as an unregistered sex offender on Dec. 12.

Police reported to the residence on Aberdeen Avenue Northeast around 7 p.m. for a call about a possible overdose. A 29-year-old male explained he observed his wife speaking with difficulty and smelling of “Pine Sol.” She collapsed on the floor and he called 911 when she stopped responding to him. She has an 8-year-old and 1-year-old sons who were there. An officer heard the 23-year-old woman tell Renton Fire Department that she had smoked a cigarette dipped with PCP.

Police soon discovered the 29-year-old male is a recently released convicted felon, required to register as a sex offender.

He was charged with kidnapping.

The woman was transported to Valley Medical for treatment.

16-year-old boy assaults mother

A 16-year-old runaway returned home and assaulted his mother before fleeing again on Dec. 14.

When police arrived at around 5 p.m. to the residence in the 900 block of Chelan Avenue Northeast, they discovered the 41-year-old mother, who appeared to have been crying. She told them her son had grabbed her around her collar bone, called her names and caused her to fear he would hurt her. Apparently he was upset that she would not let him back in the house, because he missed a family meeting. The 16-year-old had already left on foot. He was cited for investigation of fourth-degree assault.

Sibling argument lands brother in jail

A Renton brother and sister got into an argument that landed the brother in jail on Dec. 21.

Police were called around 1 a.m. to the residence in the 3700 block of Northeast Fourth Street. The two had been living together for seven months, when the 22-year-old sister said her 25-year-old brother tried to scare her son with a knife on Dec. 19.

On Dec. 21, they argued about whether he actually tried to scare her son with the knife. The brother yelled at his sister and forced her to flee to the bathroom, where he later kicked in the door. He threatened to beat her up as she fled the bathroom and ran outside to call police.

Based this history, and the fact he was drinking, he was arrested for investigation of domestic violence-harassment.
