I remain saddened by the horrible loss of life of a 12-year old boy in Skyway as does the entire Renton community. What could have been done to avoid this? Why doesn’t anybody speak up? Why are our neighborhoods full of drugs, gangs and crime? Why are we living in such a heartless, violent world where such incomprehensibly violent acts occur? We all are asking ourselves these questions and will be for a long time following such a horrific act of violence and loss of a truly innocent life.
I am 31 years old and experienced many of the same pressures of alcohol, drugs, and gangs in my youth. The help of the Renton community also guided me through trying times.
I have noticed the same problems triggering young men and women today as when I was growing up; lack of responsible adult role models in our community. What can be done about this now you might ask? As the adult community members of Renton we can help youth and young adults that have strayed from the right path. Volunteer in your community/neighborhood by reaching out a helping hand. The Renton city website has tons of opportunities that you can participate in no matter your age, income level, nationality, or formal education. We as a community can help when we come together. I am proud to be a Renton resident born, raised, and residing in our great city. Only love for one another and hard work can prevail and help us heal from losses such as that in Skyway.
