All King County and Renton city residents can safely dispose of old car batteries, oil, paint thinner and many other household hazardous items at no cost when the Wastemobile comes to Renton, Aug. 22-24.

Celebrating its 25th anniversary with more than 32 million pounds of household hazardous waste collected since 1989, the Wastemobile will be in the parking lot of the Fred Meyer at 365 Renton Center Way SW, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day.

Residents can drop off household hazardous waste items including pesticides, oil-based paints, automotive products (oil, antifreeze, auto batteries, etc.), fluorescent bulbs/tubes and other items without a charge. The service is pre-paid through garbage and sewer utility fees.

Through Aug. 25, every Wastemobile customer who drops off their household hazardous waste is not only helping preserve the environment, but they are also in the running to win free prizes as part of the service’s 25th anniversary.

Participating in the Wastemobile’s 25th anniversary drawing is easy: Just snap a photo of you with the household hazardous waste you’re taking to the Wastemobile and submit the photo. You will be automatically entered into a drawing for an iPad Mini, a $100 gift certificate to REI, or a $50 gift certificate to the nursery or garden store of your choice.
