An elderly woman suffered critical injuries in a house fire Wednesday afternoon on Talbot Road South, according to the Renton fire department.
Firefighters arriving at the single-story house up a long driveway found her, unconscious and unresponsive, and two adult men outside the house, according to Erik Wallgren, deputy fire chief for Renton Fire and Emergency Services Department.
The two men were examined. They weren’t injured and remained at the scene.
Paramedics took the woman to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle.
The fire was reported at about 1:30 p.m. in the 3100 block of Talbot Road South. Talbot Road was closed in both directions but at about 4 p.m. was close to reopening, Wallgren said.
The long driveway complicated efforts to fight the fire, according to Wallgren. The first two units drove to the house but other fire crews had to carry their equipment up a long hill to the fire scene.
A second alarm was called so that firefighters from other agencies could spell the first responders.
Investigators were on scene to determine the cause of the fire.
