The WIAA Executive Board has finalized the 2010-12 WIAA Classifications.
Hazen is the only Renton School District high school that will not change classifications. Hazen barely made the cut for 3A as there were only four natural (non-opting-up) schools with lower enrollment.
Renton High’s figure puts it much lower than the other Renton high schools, but higher than Tyee, Foster and Kennedy (which opted-up to 3A) from the Seamount.
Lindbergh is the largest 2A school in the Seamount and among the largest in the state.
Mount Rainier came in with a figure of 1,495.07, well above the 1,303 threshold for entry into 4A. The Rams will move to the SPSL 4A.
So here’s how the new Seamount League breaks down by size:
3A
- Highline – 1,157.93
- Hazen – 1,111.37
- Kennedy Catholic – 736 (opt-up)
2A
- Lindbergh – 987.24
- Evergreen – 895.02
- Renton – 798.27
- Tyee – 777.73
- Foster – 645.13
Liberty
Liberty’s enrollment came in at 934.33 and the Patriots opted-up to 3A. Liberty will remain in the KingCo 3A/2A.
