Renton teams had a very successful district meet as all three teams qualified state swimmers, Renton High for the first time since 1998. The West Central District 3A swim meet was Friday and Saturday at the Hazen pool.

Hazen led all Renton teams with a seventh-place finish. The Highlanders scored 68 points. Lindbergh finished 11th and Renton finished 14th.

Seamount teams Kennedy Catholic and Mount Rainier finished first and second respectively.

Hazen’s Lauren Kaufman took two district titles in the 50- and 100-yard freestyle races. Her time of 53.30 seconds in the 100 race set a new West Central District record.

Renton

The Indians finished seventh in the preliminary race of the 200-yard medley relay (Tonie Canlas, Eloisa Bautista, Tala hild and Lynhda Vuong), but were disqualified in the finals.

Hild placed seventh in the 100-yard butterfly and will advance to state on the strength of her time.

Bautista placed sixth in the 100-yard backstroke and will advance to state in the event.

Renton placed 10th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Canlas, Vuong, Hild and Bautista).

Renton’s 14th-place finish if the best finish for the team (boys or girls) in at least a decade. Bautista and Hild are the first Renton swimmers to make state since Anne Katzer in 1998.

Lindbergh

The Eagles placed seventh in the 200-yard medley relay (Stephanie Jacobsen, Lauren Miller, Savannah Lemke and Karlie Pfluger).

Lemke finished fourth in the 200-yard individual medley and will advance to state. Lemke also placed fifth in the 100-yard butterfly and will advance to state in that event.

Jacobsen placed 11th in the 100-yard freestyle.

Lindbergh finished 10th in the 200-yard freestyle relay (Lemke, Jenna Birley, Pfluger and Jacobsen). The Eagles finished 12th in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Elizabeth Lamb, Brenna Healy, Lauren Sauve and Caitlin Garl).

Hazen

Kaufman won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 24.82 seconds. Kaufman also won the 100-yard freestyle and set a district record with a time of 53.30 seconds. Kaufman will swim at state in both events.

Sarah McCormick placed fifth in the one-meter dive competition.

Kaela Nurmi placed fifth in the 100-yard freestyle. Nurmi placed fifth in the 100-yard backstroke. Nurmi will swim at state in both events.

Amy LeBar placed 11th in the 100-yard breaststroke.

Hazen finished third in the 400-yard freestyle relay (Nurmi, LeBar, Kaitlin Nelson and Kaufman). Alternates for the relay are Kara Bradford, Megan Downs, Cori Hall and Leah Maier.
