Liberty stays unbeaten; Renton, Hazen each win | Girls basketball

The Liberty girls basketball team found its offensive stride late and beat Mercer Island 45-41 Thursday night. The Patriots (6-0 overall, 4-0 KingCo 3A/2A) stayed unbeaten and still hold a one-game lead in the league standings over Juanita and Lake Washington.

The Patriots (6-0 overall, 4-0 KingCo 3A/2A) stayed unbeaten and still hold a one-game lead in the league standings over Juanita and Lake Washington.

Liberty scored just 18, and trailed by 12, heading into the fourth quarter Thursday night. Then the team found its stride, scoring 27 points in the final frame to come back and win.

Aspen Winegar led the team with 14 points. Sierra Carlson added nine and Delane Agnew eight.

Renton

Renton stayed on top of the Seamount League with a 77-53 win against Tyee Wednesday.

The Indians (3-2, 3-0 Seamount) hold a one-game lead in the league standings over Lindbergh and Tyee.

Renton went up by 11 points in the first quarter against the Totems and never looked back. Taylor Farris scored 22 points for Renton. Jordan Armstrong added 14 and Shanease Kenner scored 10.

Hazen

Hazen got out to a quick start and put away Evergreen 62-38 Wednesday.

The Highlanders (2-2, 1-2) led 33-16 at the half. Airashay Rogers scored 25 points and Ariana Williams added 10.
