Citizen of the Year nominations for 2014 are now available. The City of Renton hosts this annual award and the deadline is Sept. 19.
People who are dedicated to making the Renton community a great place to live, work, play and learn are called to participate. Those who perform acts of goodwill in an effort to help others and to improve the quality of life in Renton are prime candidates for the Renton Citizen of the Year award.
Representatives from the Renton Chamber of Commerce, City of Renton, the Rotary Club of Renton and past winners will select the top Outstanding Citizens and the Citizen of the Year who will be honored at a special banquet to be held at the Renton Senior Center on Wednesday, Nov. 5.
People who have gone beyond the call of duty, who demonstrate strong character, leadership, commitment and community service and contribute his or her talents to helping others are considered strong candidates for the award.
Category examples for volunteer service include:
• assistance for people in crisis
• food bank provision
• elder care
• minority group outreach or youth guidance
• stewardship of a public building or open space
• Organization of community events
• outstanding charitable fund-raising
• assistance of local government
• volunteer for education or healthcare organizations
