Renton police officers arrested a 47-year-old Renton man on Oct. 8 for investigaton of felony assault after he was seen with a gun and a knife in the 100 block of Rainier Avenue South.

Officers arrived at a coffee stand on the block at about 2:45 p.m. and were told by a witness that the suspect was still in the area, on foot. An officer, carrying his patrol rifle charged with a round, immediately began a search of the area.

The witness from Maple Valley told an officer that the suspect had started to take a long-barreled gun from his vehicle, a 1989 gray Chevrolet Suburban. The suspect was yelling at a friend for opening the vehicle’s door, according to police.

The witness saw the suspect take the gun from a sewn-in rear pocket on the passenger side of the vehicle. The suspect then returned the rifle to the seat pocket and grabbed something smaller; the witness told police he couldn’t see what was in the suspect’s hand, but he was fearful.

The witness told officers: “I thought he had a gun. I was scared. He was saying, ‘Don’t piss me off!’”

The suspect then started walking across the parking lot toward the witness and the officers. The witness yelled: “That’s him. That’s the guy. The one in the purple.”

The suspect was taken into custody.

The suspect’s friend who was threatened by the suspect had told officers he thought the truck belonged to a man for whom he occasionally works. The friend saw the suspect take a 5-inch knife out of the vehicle. The suspect approached the friend with the knife behind his leg, according to the police report. The victim told officers he feared for his life.

A BB gun was found in the vehicle and the knife was in the suspect’s possession. The suspect was booked into Renton City Jail for investigation of felony assault.

Affair leads to arrest

A Renton man was arrested on Oct. 7 for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief over an incident stemming from his wife’s affair with another man, according to Renton police.

The incident occurred in the Benson Hill area, but police contacted the suspect at a downtown store on Rainier Avenue South.

The 59-year-old suspect told police he just learned that his 34-year-old wife of seven years was having an affair and the man had followed them to Renton from out of state.

He told police he had been upset the entire weekend. During an argument with his wife, the suspect punched a hole in a door with his right elbow. He had gone downtown to buy a new door when police contacted him. The damaged door was valued at between $50 and $100.

The husband was booked into Renton City Jail for investigation of third-degree malicious mischief/domestic violence.

Man assaulted

in Highlands

A man reported to Renton police that at about 12:45 a.m. on Sept. 28 he was assaulted and robbed by three men while at a pay phone in the 2800 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard.

The victim had asked one of the suspects who was standing in front of the pay phone whether he was using the phone. He said “no” and other males in the area began calling the victim names and tried to intimidate him, according to the police report.

The victim walked away to use another pay phone but yelled back names at the men. They followed him, according to police. They caught up with him at a restaurant drive-through, pulled him to the ground and hit him about 10 times, according to the police report.

They took his i-Phone, valued at about $500, that had fallen from his pocket.

The victim told police the punches were intended for his head, but he curled into a fetal position and guarded his head with his arms. The suspects were described as black males. According to the victim, two of the men assaulted him, while the third one just watched.

Woman assaulted

at wedding at hall

A Seattle man was arrested for investigation of fourth-degree assalt for allegedly hitting a woman at a wedding Sept. 28 at a hall in the 400 block of Burnett Avenue South, according to Renton police.

Police initially had been called at midnight for a report of theft of liquor from a party, but officers soon learned of the assault, too. The victim from Bellevue was bruised on the left and right side of her face and had cuts to her right wrist.

According to police, a man and woman about 18 to 21 years old entered the bar at the hall and grabbed a bottle of champagne. The victim said to them, “Hey, you can’t take that,” according to the police report.

The couple left and the victim followed them to the parking lot, along with the remaining wedding-goers. Three or four men were with the couple who had taken the champagne.

According to police, the men attacked the wedding party group. The victim was hit in the face and she fell to the ground. When she got up, one of the men hit her again, and she fell down again. She then confronted two women who had arrived. One of the women tried to hit the victim.

The vehicle left and the men fled on foot as police arrived. The suspect was stopped by a officer at South Seventh Street and Smithers Avenue South.

He as booked into Renton City Jail for investigation of fourth-degree assault.

Television stolen

A technical trainer from Huntsville, Ala., reported to police that a 42-inch, flat-panel television was stolen on Oct. 8 from a banquet room at the Holiday Inn, 1 S. Grady Way, where he was conducting a training session.

The trainer had left two televisions in the locked banquet room overnight. He discovered the theft at about 6 a.m., according to the police report. No force was used to enter the room.

The TV was valued at $1,900.
