Police agencies across the state, including Renton’s, are continuing this weekend their extra efforts to catch speeders.
The campaign is known as the Slow Down or Pay Up campaign and is carried on the reader boards over freeways.
This is the campaign’s second weekend and will conclude next weekend.
Hours for the enforcement are:
• Fridays, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
• Saturdays, noon to 8 p.m.
•Sundays, noon to 8 p.m.
In Renton the extra patrols are on major arterials serving the city.
The program, developed by the Washington Traffic Safety Commission and local law enforcement, is the first statewide enforcement campaign to catch speeders in Washington.
From 2004 to 2008, speeding was a critical factor in 40 percent of all traffic fatalities in our state.
