RTC instructor interprets for Dalai Lama
Renton Technical College’s language interpreter program instructor Ineza Kuceba will translate a speech by the Dalai Lama into Polish during his Washington visit, which begins today (Saturday) and ends Tuesday.
The Buddhist monk’s speech will be translated into 18 languages. Kuceba will provide a simultaneous interpretation of his speech, which means she will translate his words into Polish, with a three to five second delay.
She will be one of 36 interpreters (two for each language), simultaneously interpreting the words of Tibet’s spiritual leader during a live teleconference.
Ineza was interviewed and selected after she was discovered on the Windermere Web site under “multilingual professionals.”
The Dalai Lama’s visit, called “Seeds of Compassion,” will feature panel discussions, speeches and artistic performances.
Renton preschool raises “green” money
Sunset Cooperative Preschool is sponsoring a “green” fundraising drive. When named as a beneficiary, the Renton school will receive 25 percent of the money made from sales on www.greenraising.com throughout the year, and 40 percent of the money made from sales from April 7 to 18.
Greenraising carries eco-friendly and fair-trade products.Sunset Cooperative Preschool is held in the Kennydale United Methodist Church in Renton. The school is a member of the Bellevue Community College Parent Education program.
As a cooperative preschool, parents are part of Sunset’s program. Sunset is for 3-5 year olds. The preschool is now enrolling for fall 2008.

Liberty High
spring musical
Liberty High School Patriot Players will perform “Godspell” as their spring musical production. Performances are 7:30 p.m. on April 25, 26, May 1 and 2, and 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. on May 3.
Written in 1970 by John-Michael Tebelak, “Godspell” is a contemporary story based on the Gospel of Saint Matthew.
Liberty’s production approaches the text as literature, not scripture. The Patriot Players have also updated the musical by incorporating contemporary costumes and dance styles, including stomp, hip hop and salsa. The set, an original design, is inspired by the Goodwill parking lot in Seattle.
Ticket prices are $9 for adults, $7 for students with Liberty ASB and seniors and children under 12.
