The Lindbergh boys cross-country team won the West Central District meet at American Lake on Saturday and will advance to the 3A state meet.
Mount Rainier’s Michael Miller took first overall in the boys varsity race. Lindbergh’s Trevor Thompson, Matt Miland and Joseph Patti took the third, fourth and fifth spots overall. The Eagles combined to score 49 points, nearly half of the second-place team, North Kitsap, (86).
In addition to Thompson, Miland and Patti, Nate Reitz, James Cornell, Nate Tandecki and Thanh Nguyen will all advance to the state meet for Lindbergh.
The Hazen boys team missed the cut for advancing to state by placing 10th. The top seven teams advance to state. Senior Jeff Hinckley was in the top 35 individuals and therefore will run at the state meet as an individual. Jeff’s brother David, placed 41st and missed the cut by less than 10 seconds.
The Lindbergh girls tied for 10th place with Port Angeles. Freshman Sarah Reiter placed ninth overall and will represent the Eagle girls at the state meet.
The Hazen girls placed 13th. Sophomore Michelle Wnek placed 26th overall and will represent the Hazen girls at the state meet.
Volleyball
Renton fell to Highline and Lakes on Saturday at the SPSL/Seamount subdistrict tournament and was eliminated from playoff contention.
The Indians met Highline first and played close but fell in three games, 25-18, 25-20 and 25-25. Then Renton met Lakes and fell in three games, 25-13, 25-19 and 25-13.
The Renton volleyball team had not been to the playoffs for over 20 years and ended the season on a 5-3 run before the sub-district losses.
Soccer
Liberty placed second in the KingCo through the regular season with a 9-3-3 overall record and a 7-3-2 league record.
The Patriots played Sammamish in the first round of the KingCo playoffs Tuesday night. If they win, they will play either Bellevue or Mercer Island Nov. 6 at 7 p.m. at Liberty.
Liberty went 1-0-1 against Sammamish, 1-1 against Bellevue and 1-1 against Mercer Island in the regular season.
If Liberty wins both games, it will meet the Metro League’s No. 3 team at noon on Nov. 8 at Nathan Hale in a winner-to-state game.
Liberty senior Anna Skutley (forward) and freshman Cassidy Nangle (forward) each made the KingCo 3A all-league first team. Senior Krissa Gunderson (defender), freshman Kimi Fry (midfielder), sophomore Sara DuVall (midfielder), senior Rayssa Lira (midfielder) and senior Nicole Newbury (midfielder) all made the second team. Freshman Shannon Daly, senior Monica Cramer, junior Chelsea Noonan and senior Anna Freeman made honorable mention.
Lindbergh plays Bonney Lake today (Wednesday) at 5:30 at Highline Stadium in subdistricts. The team will already advance to the district tournament, but a win or loss will change the seeding.
The Eagles play in the district tournament on Nov. 8 where eight seeds to the state tournament are available.
