After losing its opening round game in dramatic fashion, the Hazen Highlander soccer team rebounded Saturday with a 1-0 win over Columbia City and will play tonight at Renton Memorial Stadium.
Like in the game against Auburn Mountainview, Hazen started fast, scoring in the eighth minute when Drew Wilson took an assist from Leon Bamba and put it in the back of the net.
But this time, the Highlanders made it stand.
Keeper Luis Rodriguez had six saves to earn the shutout.
The win gave Hazen the No. 3 seed coming out of 3A districts and headed into the tonight’s opening round of the state tournament, where they will take on Garfield at 5:30 p.m. at Renton Memorial Stadium.
Also tonight, the Seamount Champion Lindbergh Eagles will play Foster at 7:30 p.m. at Renton Memorial Stadium. Lindbergh won the 2A district tournament Saturday with a 2-1 victory over Fife. No statistics were available form the game.
The Liberty Patriots are also still alive, having bested Franklin Pierce 2-0 in a loser-out game Saturday to earn the No. 4 seed. Liberty plays Ridgefield at 7 p.m. tonight at Ridgefield High School.
