Dean Radford wrote an article (Editor’s Note, Aug. 16, Renton Reporter) telling Renton voters to vote for Ms. Maxwell because she is a strong candidate, has an understanding of the Renton community and is a Democrat. The only one of these that should matter in this election is whether she is a stronger candidate.
He admits that his own logic of choosing the candidate that can best represent their district is the one that better knows their district. By this admission alone, Steve Litzow is the better candidate (more constituents are on Mercer Island than Renton). Plus, he will better understand the issues of those in Bellevue and Newcastle (news for Radford, it isn’t only Renton vs. Mercer Island).
Radford also suggests that being in the majority will be better for Renton. Where this may be true, this kind of logic would suggest that we should allow Bush (as Republican president) more validity. We don’t need another partisan politician following along with the ideals of Frank Chopp. He is not what is right for District 41st.
Nothing was mentioned about Marcie’s “strong” credentials. In fact, where the majority of the emphasis should have been placed there was no discussion.
This is not an endorsement of Litzow or an anti-endorsement of Maxwell. It is a call for discussion on the things that matter for District 41st and her constituents. Let the best candidate prove themselves and share their vision for the District.
Shame on the Reporter for such ignorant reporting. Whether it is to stir the pot, it is bad reporting. If Renton is to be a bigger community, they had better act like it. Let’s get a real newspaper with real editors.
Get out and know the candidates! Educate yourselves, become involved and VOTE!
