In the “early morning rain” of October 24, 2016 – My soulmate, John “flew away Home to Glory” with his Savior, Jesus Christ… and to reunite with beloved family and friends gone before him (including our Special “Gunner-Dog”). He had suffered greatly over the past 6 1/2 years from the effects of colon cancer; and died after a month of complications at Harborview Hospital, Seattle.
– Born June 1947 in Starbuck, MN to Emerson and Clara Rebuck (who both preceded him in death), he was the “Baby” of the family – after two sisters, Claudia and Inez and one brother, Dean.
John lived most of his formative life on Talbot Hill in Renton, and attended Henry Ford Elementary, McKnight Jr., and Renton Sr. High Schools. He excelled in sports (football and baseball), but Music was his passion.
Having met in 1963 – in an “RHS” musical production, he married Me, Cyndee Lee Klise in 1970. We had attended LBI (Lutheran Bible Inst.) in Seattle together (he with a 2yr degree). John aslo attend Green River Community College, University of Minnesota and CWU – Ellensburg.
John served in the U.S. Army as an M.P.-K9 dog handler from 1968-70 at a missile site in Minnesota. His career was varied – from landscaping for “Long Acres”, to warehouseman for Boeing (13 years), to maintenance at Kent School District (13 years). He had just retired last year.
Our aspirations were “Fueled by the Fire” to pursue our performing career as “The Rebuck-Dixon Train” with our “Best Bud”, Bob Dixon (RHS ‘65). Though we played professionally in the 1970’s, we continued to relish our time together (cd’s/weddings/clubs,etc.) in Eugune, OR and Olympia… for the next 43 years ‘til Bob’s death in 2013.
John is survived by his brother of Bellingham, WA and sisters of Arizona, also many loved sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews and their families… – and… “Me”, still waiting to catch the “next” “Night Train”.
A celebration of his life will occur on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 1pm – Kent Lutheran Church (336 – 2nd Ave So – downtown Kent). All Welcome. Memorials to “American Cancer Society” or “Paws”.
