The Lindbergh fourth annual Invitational was Saturday, Dec.17. There were 19 schools competing at the tournament.

The Lindbergh wrestling team placed fifth and Renton took 10th.

Lindbergh

Lindbergh High featured two champions, a fourth, three fifth placers and a sixth place finisher.

Hazen

The Hazen High wrestling team hosted Kentwood Dec. 14 and lost 57-13.

Hazen traveled to Bremerton Dec. 16-17 to compete in the Hammerhead Invitation.

Magana wrote in an email, “The boys wrestled in a 32 man bracket, top six placed. The girls wrestled in a 16 girl bracket with top three placing. Hazen would finish with three placers, however the boys would send six on to the second day. Hazen finished Hammerhead with three placers.”

For the girls team Magana wrote, “Raven Svenson placed second at 155 after dominating the opposition into the finals. After establishing herself as the better wrestler for two rounds in the finals, she was caught in a big move resulting in a pin. Credit is due to her opponent, however, Raven was clearly the better wrestler.”

Also for the girls team, Zenyka Gomilla competed at 155. Magana wrote she had a smaller bracket “but she made the most out of her tournament. After losing her opening match, she put on a tremendous display of tenacity as she came back to win by fall against her opponent. Zenyka’s double leg and physical top wrestling broke her opponents will to wrestle. She put her opponent on her back to get the pin. Zenyka wrestled tough.”

For the boys Tyson Mowrey, 132, placed fourth. “After losing in the quarters on day one, he ripped off three wins in a row to get into the third place match,” Magana wrote. “He would injury default out of the medal round out of precaution. He wrestled a great tournament and beat two highly ranked wrestlers to get on the podium. Tyson went 6-1 on the weekend.”

Liberty

The Liberty High boys wrestling team have competed in three matches with one team victory and two losses.

Dec. 8 Liberty lost to Juanita 42-39. The Patriots beat Granite Falls 45-44 Dec. 13 and lost to Washington 34-31 Dec. 15.
