Lindbergh student Austin Wesely is raising money for the American Cancer Society through a program called Miracle Shot.

As part of a school project, he designed this program to help teach kids in second to fifth grade how to play basketball. In an email, Wesely said he wanted to give these students something “to do after school and on the weekends.”

The fee to participate is $5 and that money will go to the cancer society.

Wesely said the location of this program will be Cascade Elementary School, 16022 116th Ave. SE.

He reached out to Renton Mayor Denis Law and received a message of support from him.

In an email, Law said:

“Raising funds is truly a challenge these days because of the increased need throughout the community…. Your idea definitely focuses on a significant need for kids.”

He is currently looking for volunteers to help make flyers and also to help teach the elementary students. He added, that he is asking volunteers to also bring a basketball if they can.

Wesely is hoping to start this program on March 14 and run it through the middle of May.

In an email, he said all participants and their family members will be invited to a celebratory barbecue on the last Sunday of the program.
