Renton student recognized at poetry contest

Carrie Costello received honorable mention in Highline College’s 2017 Student Poetry Contest.

Carrie Costello from Renton received honorable mention in Highline College’s 2017 Student Poetry Contest for her poem titled “Too Young.”

Costello received a cash prize of $50 for her poem.

Students were required to submit poems that had no more than 20 lines.

The winning poems will be on display during April and May in the Highline Library Exhibits and Art Gallery.

A formal reception and poetry reading for the winners and finalists is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. April 11 in the Library Exhibits and Art Gallery.

This contest comes before Highline’s fifth annual celebration of National Poetry Month in April.

The reception and reading along with other events in April from workshops to readings are free and open to the public.
