William Farrell “Bill” Lusher joined his heavenly Father on July 8, 2017. He was 75 years of age. Bill was born in Butte, Montana on November 8, 1941. His parents, Bill and Kay moved the family to Seattle early in Bill’s life and he lived on Queen Anne Hill through his high school years, where he attended Queen Anne High School.
He enjoyed playing sports and working on cars in his youth and he made lifelong friends in the neighborhood, who have remained close and loyal to this day. He was an avid water skier, sailor, and European traveler during his bachelor days. As he transitioned into adulthood, Bill joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves and then became a police officer with the King County Sheriff’s Department.
He met his wife Penny soon thereafter and started a family. Bill and Penny had three kids, Chad, Kristen, and Colleen, who also blessed them with six grandchildren ((Ch ad – Megan, Logan), (Kristen – Quinlyn, Keegan), (Colleen – Erin, Memphis)).
Family was always paramount in Bill’s life and he was ever present at all of his kids’ and grandkids’ activities. Bill, Penny, and the kids also often vacationed and spent holidays with his parents and brothers, Jerry and Emmett, and Penny’s parents and siblings (Bud, Marge, Gary, Dale, Nancy and Gene) and their families. Bill loved the outdoors and spent many days camping, fishing and hiking with family and friends.
After Bill’s retirement from the Sheriff’s Department as a Patrol Sergeant, he and Penny traveled the country, and were on the road with their dogs for many miles, traversing the western United States on every highway and byway. Also a history buff, Bill stopped at all kinds of out of the way places during their excursions, to learn about the people who had lived there over time. As was his family, Bill was proud of his service as a Sheriff’s Deputy. He met many long time friends while on the force, and he remained active in the community as the President of the Washington State Retired Deputy Sheriff’s and Police Officer’s Association.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents (Bill and Kay). He is survived by his wife Penny, his kids Chad (Lara), Kristen (Rich), and Colleen (Eric), his grandchildren Megan, Logan, Quinlyn, Keegan, Erin, and Memphis, and his brothers Jerry (Gail), and Emmett (Robbi).
Memorial Service will be held at St. Madeleine Sophie Catholic Church in Bellevue on Saturday, August 5, at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to The Pulmonary Fibrosis Foundation.
