October Teachers of the Month | RENTON ROTARY

As part of their commitment to education, and to celebrate teachers in the Renton School District, each month members of Rotary Club of Renton selects a few teachers as Teacher of the Month.

October’s Teachers of the Month are:

Jennifer Lin

Librarian at Highlands Elementary School

Jennifer Lin began her college experience at Texas Woman’s University earning an elementary reading certification and K-12 learning resource endorsement, she continued her education with a master’s degree in library and information science at the University of Texas in Austin. Lin has worked in education for many years with experience teaching as a library media specialist in the Mukilteo School District, Northshore School District and Texas Public Schools. Aside from teaching, Lin has been a librarian for children in public libraries. Lin has been teaching in Renton for 16 years.

Malcolm Collie

International Baccalaureate Program Coordinator at Renton High School

Malcolm Collie attended the University of Glasgow, in Glasgow, Scotland where he earned a first class honors degree in English literature and Russian. He continued his education at Spalding University in Louisville, Kentucky where he earned a Master of Arts in education. He began his teaching career in the West Ada School District in Meridian, Idaho where he taught for eight years, then taught two years at Meridian High School and six years at Renaissance High School as the English department head. Aside from teaching Collie worked 10 years as a linguist, analyst and team leader at Government Communications Headquarters, the British equivalent to NSA. This year is Collie’s third year teaching in the Renton School District.

Sarah Jensen

Second grade Teacher at Maplewood Heights Elementary School

Sarah Jensen studied education foundations at the University of Oregon in Eugene, Oregon. She also attended Pacific University in Forest Grove, Oregon where she earned a Master of Arts in teaching with a focus inearly childhood and elementary education. Jensen started her teaching at Maplewood Heights Elementary School and is in her fifth year of teaching for the Renton School District.

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month recognition luncheon held at the Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher is introduced, makes a brief comment about the school and classroom, and receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies or instructional materials.
