Renton Rotary selects Teachers of the Month for January

As part of their commitment to education, and to celebrate teachers in the Renton School District, each month members of Rotary Club of Renton selects a few teachers as Teacher of the Month.

As part of the recognition, teachers attend Rotary’s Teacher of the Month recognition luncheon held at the Maplewood Golf Course. Each teacher is introduced, makes a brief comment about the school and classroom, and receives $200 to be used for classroom supplies or instructional materials.

January’s Teachers of the Month are:

Haley Bergman

Third Grade Teacher at Kennydale Elementary School

Haley Bergman began her college experience at Washington State University where she earned a degree in elementary education. Then she earned a master’s degree in curriculum and instruction through Westerns Governors University. Before becoming a teacher, Bergman worked at the YMCA’s Child Development Center and she also served as a substitute teacher. Bergman has been teaching in Renton for four years.

Lori McEwen

Literacy Support Teacher at Talley Sr. High School

Lori McEwen attended Linfield College in McMinnville, Oregon, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in English literature with a minor in secondary education. She continued her education at Johns Hopkins University where she earned a Master of Science degree in education. Before teaching in Renton, McEwen was a high school teacher in Memphis, Tennessee for three years before returning to the Seattle area. This year is McEwen’s second year teaching in the Renton School District.

Amanda Tenerelli

Special Education Resource Teacher at Hazelwood Elementary School

Amanda Tenerelli studied special education at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois and is currently working to obtain her Master’s of Education degree in literacy at Seattle Pacific University. Before teaching in Renton, she worked as a paraeducator. Tenerelli spent three years teaching seventh and ninth grade special education at Intrinsic Charter School in Chicago. This is Tenerelli’s second year of teaching in the Renton School District.
