Rotary members recognize three Renton School District high school students each month as Youth of the Month. After being selected by counselors at each of the district’s three comprehensive high schools, a selection committee of Rotary members review applications and interview students to identify those who will be selected as Youth of the Month. The award is given to students who possess leadership abilities, maintain a good grade point average, participate in school activities and volunteer in their community.

The students and their parents are honored guests at a regular Rotary luncheon.

March Rotary Youth of the Month are:

Amy Chin

Senior at Hazen High School

Amy Chin holds a 4.0 GPA. She has been involved in FBLA, National Honor Society, Gordy’s Guides, Hazen leadership, Travel Club and girls’ basketball. She has received FBLA Community Service awards, AP Scholar with Honor recognition, American Association of University Women’s recognition of excellence in technology, Academic All-Star and Outstanding Junior award. Chin volunteers at the Lake Sammamish Foursquare Church by coordinating Sunday VBS services and other tasks. She plans to attend a four-year university to study either business administration or marketing.

Shayla Nguyen

Senior at Lindbergh High School

Shayla Nguyen holds a 3.9 GPA. She has been involved in DECA, National Honor Society and HOSA and has held officer positions in each. She has received Seattle University Sullivan Leadership award qualifier, Masonic Outstanding Junior, Student of the Month, top merit honor roll, HOSA Outstanding Member Award, and is a DECA State finalist and National qualifier . She volunteers with Highline Medical Center, Salvation Army, Hope Heart Institute and Vietnamese Martyr Parish. Nguyen plans to attend Seattle University to study biology. She hopes to become an oncologist to make a difference in the world through medicine.

Nathan Saeturn

Senior at Renton High School

Nathan Saeturn holds a 3.2 GPA. He has been involved in Key Club, Badminton Club, Green Team, Culinary Club, tennis, swim, wrestling and track. He has received several first place tennis awards as well as the most improved recognition in swim and most inspirational recognition in tennis. Saeturn volunteers with Renton Kiwanis, Salvation Army, Birthday Dreams and Kubota Gardens. After high school, he plans to attend a university to major in bioengineering. Saeturn hopes to become a bioengineer to explore and hopefully discover new ways to further the growth of human civilization
