Dear Renton Community,
Our beloved ICON for the Renton Chamber of Commerce, Lucille (Lucy) Crozier passed away On March 10th after a brief bout of pneumonia resulting from pulmonary disease. Her son Hugh, daughter-in-law Carol, and grandkids Kelli and Colin were by her side as she passed peacefully. She loved her Lord Jesus Christ who welcomed her into Heaven.
As a member of the “Greatest Generation” Lucy worked tirelessly at a bakery in Kellogg, ID at age 14 until graduation from high school when she married Hugh T. Crozier. Shortly afterwards they moved to San Francisco where she started a 42 year banking career at the original Bank of America. Her career included stints at other banks including Seattle-First National Bank (Spokane, Seattle) and finally 16 years at Peoples Bank (U S Bank) in Renton.
At 62 she took her first retirement. Immediately following retirement she volunteered at the Greater Renton Chamber of Commerce. After a few weeks volunteering daily the Chamber hired her as a 30+ hour per week receptionist.
Lucy was beloved by the Renton Business community. She always greeted members and visitors with a bright welcoming smile. She was considered the official ambassador for Renton by both business and civic leaders. She answered all types of calls from people across the country, regarding Renton. Her favorite were calls wanting to know if the drive between Seattle and Alaska was only three to four hours.
Lucy loved the New Teachers Celebration each year and coordinated the “teacher bags” full of information, coupons and gifts from Renton Chamber businesses. She was the ultimate “Wikipedia” for Renton. She loved Renton and knew where to shop, dine, play, and learn.
After 26 years at the Chamber, Lucy retired from her second career last July; two months shy of her 89th birthday.
Lucy will be missed by her family, friends and community.
Lucy, you made a difference by teaching us your gift of humility and how to treat one another. You were a gift to everyone who walked in our door and your legacy to “love one another” rings in our ears.
A fundraising event will be held in conjunction with the Renton Chamber and Vino’s at the Landing to set up an “Educational Fund” with the Renton Regional Community Foundation entitled “Chamber Champions” in honor of the many people who have passed away who gave their time, talent and treasure to honor teachers making Renton an award winning city where education is first and foremost.
