Semi-finalists selected from Liberty

Two Liberty High School students — Arne Grette and Annabelle Smith — were selected as National Merit Scholarship Corporation semi-finalists.

There are roughly 16,000 semi-finalists in the scholarship program.

Grette and Smith have the opportunity to continue in the competition for nearly 7,500 National Merit scholarships worth more than $32 million.

Aside from these two semi-finalists, 13 seniors were recognized as Commended Students in the National Merit Scholarship Program. Each were presented with a certificate.

City seeks candidates for advisory committee

The city is looking for three residents to serve on the Human Services Advisory Committee.

The openings include two adult and one youth member positions. The three year term will begin in 2019.

Committee meetings are held the third Tuesday of each month at 3 p.m. at Renton City Hall.

Elementary school receives grant

Kennydale Elementary School is the recipient of a $500 music and arts grant from California Casualty.

Applicant and music teacher Nikki Skinner is thrilled that the grant will enable her to share an appreciation for music with more students, according to a media release.

Kennydale was one of 17 Washington schools that received a grant.

Kindering announces new CEO

On Oct. 5, Kindering announced Dr. Lisa Greenwald as the new Chief Executive Officer of the neurodevelopmental center, according to a media release.

She was selected following a six month process by the Kindering Board of Directors.

Current CEO, Mimi Siegel will be retiring after 40 years.

Annual trick-or-treating location changed

The Leisure Estates Mobile Home, 201 Union Ave. SE, has passed out candy for the past 30 years on Halloween but due to safety concerns, the location is changing.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, Halloween candy will be passed out at Heritage Park, 233 Union Ave. NE.

Signs will be posted in advance informing people of this change.

Job fair coming to Highline College

More than 50 employers with full time, part time and temporary job openings will be on site from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 23 at Highline College.

Job seekers should be prepared to speak with recruiters, dress professionally and bring extra copies of their resume.
