Janet Belmondo was born May 14, 1928, in Madison, WI. She passed away peacefully in Kent, WA, on January 1, 2019.
Janet moved with her family from Madison to Spokane, WA, where she graduated from Lewis and Clark High School. She attended Eastern Washington College (University) and then Washington State College (University) where she was a member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority. While at Washington State she met Bill, her wonderful husband and life partner of 63 years.
After graduating from Washington State, Janet began a 25-year career of public service in the Renton and Tukwila School Districts as an elementary school teacher. An extraordinary teacher, she was passionate about helping her students learn and grow in a loving and supportive environment.
She enjoyed outdoor activities with family including gardening, camping, walks in the woods hunting mushrooms, and trips to the coast. Family summers with relatives and friends spent swimming, canoeing, skiing, sailing, hiking and huckleberry picking at the cabin on Priest Lake in Idaho made cherished memories for a lifetime.
Janet placed family first. She was a caring wife, mother, “Nona”, sister and aunt. She was the consummate encourager, always looking for the good in people and life’s circumstances. Whether with family, friends, students, caregivers or others, she found ways to lift spirits and brighten days. Her beautiful blue eyes communicated her self-less love and infectious joy.
Janet is survived by her siblings Ruth Dorman, Joyce Lee and Richard Ellingwood, Jr, children Jeff (Leslie), Craig (DeAnna), Janet (Ferdie) and Brad (Sandy), 10 grand-children, 11 great-grand-children, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Sr. and Ruth Ellingwood, husband Bill and sister Mary.
