Two Hazen swimmers broke records and qualified for new events over the weekend during the Kentridge Invitational, held at the King County Aquatic Center on Saturday, Jan. 11.
The team placed 13th overall, competing against teams from all over the state, according to Head Coach Lynn Gerking.
“The guys had several great swims. And senior, Ethan Dang, broke two Hazen school records that have been in place for 25 years,” Gerking stated in an email.
The team has four league meets left in the season and will host the North Puget Sound League (NPSL) Championships on Saturday, Feb. 1 at Hazen High School..
Dang broke two 25-year-old Hazen High School records, placed first in both events and qualified for state in both events. The records inclue;
•50 Free – 20.79. The old Hazen record was 21.17.
•100 Free – 45.47. The old Hazen record was 47.39.
Justin Brunings, a junior, and Andrew Luu, a sophomore, qualified for Districts in two events each;
•Justin Brunings – 200 IM (2:15.50) and the 100 Back (1:00.04).
•Andrew Luu – 200 IM (2:16.58) and the 100 Fly (1:00.20).
