Dr. Frederick Richard Brown, “Doc Brown”, died at the age of 89 in Portland, Oregon, on February 15, 2020. At his side were his daughters Julie Brown and Jeannie Johnson.
Doc Brown practiced dentistry in the Renton Highlands for over 50 years and was a well know part of the community, treating generations of families. He loved being a dentist and was a dynamic, generous and adventurous person who touched the lives of many. A lifetime member of the Flying Dentists Association, one of his great passions in life was flying his plane. His other passions included snow and water skiing, boating, his cabin on Whidbey Island, traveling, and, most of all, his family. He lived by the motto “the family that plays together stays together” and he showed his family the world. A long-time resident of Bellevue, Washington, he moved to Portland after his beloved wife of 60 years, Margie, died.
He leaves behind his daughters Julie Brown, Jayne Wells and Jeannie Johnson, along with five cherished grandchildren Leah Day, Ella Day, Hannah Johnson, Luke Johnson and Sarah Johnson, as well as a close-knit extended family and many longtime friends and colleagues.
Born on June 15, 1930, in Tualatin, Oregon, he was the younger brother of Margaret Ella Brown and son of Frank and Katie Brown. In his youth his family moved to the North Seattle area. He attended the University of Washington and graduated from the University of Washington School of Dentistry with his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree in 1955. After dental school, he served his country as a Captain in the United States Air Force. He married Margaret Elizabeth Henry, “Margie”, on July 23, 1955. Together they raised their children and traveled the world. He was an adored husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. He will be dearly missed.
He will be buried next to his beloved wife in a graveside service to be held at 10 a.m. at Enumclaw Evergreen Memorial Park on March 1, 2020, with a Memorial service at 11 a.m. at Week’s Enumclaw Funeral Home. A reception celebrating his life will be held at Noon at The Black Diamond Bakery in Black Diamond, WA.
