The man that authorities believe to be responsible for the death of 19-year-old Lorenzo Anderson during the 2020 Capitol Hill protests has been arrested more than a year after the shooting.

On July 12, 20-year-old Renton man, Marcel Long, was arrested by U.S. Marshals.

According to charging documents, King County prosecutors say video evidence shows Long chasing and shooting Anderson on June 20, 2020 during the Capitol Hill protests that forced police presence from the East Precinct Police Precinct.

According to investigators, the altercation is believed to have stemmed from a fight the two had a year before.

Police claim they were unable to respond to the shooting because they were obstructed by a crowd of protesters. They also claim they were unable to investigate the crime scene or speak with witnesses to the incident because of the CHAZ protest.

Lawyers representing Anderson’s family claim that he was taken to Harborview Medical Center in a volunteer’s truck where he was later pronounced dead.

Anderson’s family is suing the City of Seattle because they claim first responders failed to give assistance that could have been life-saving and that city officials invited lawlessness during the protests.

The King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office says the CHOP/CHAZ formed June 8 in Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood and was cleared July 1.

Long’s arraignment is scheduled for 1:45 pm Aug. 19 in the King County Courthouse.
