“Northwest” situates itself in the seedy underbelly of Copenhagen’s rough neighborhoods. Casper is a loyal 18-year-old living with his single mother, younger brother, and baby sister, who in an effort to make ends meet, dabbles with small-time burglaries. Cutting between home life and nightlife, Casper is a disgruntled youth determined to find the means to an easier and more enjoyable life. Unhappy with his arrangement, Casper accepts an offer to join a new crew, finding fast money through the trade of drugs and prostitution. His early successes are happily enjoyed by his family, which leads Casper to develop an even more enthusiastic work ethic. In order to gain approval by his new boss, Casper enlists the aid of his younger brother, Andy. The two are able to enjoy a period of plenty before becoming the targets of their old partners. Ultimately, Casper must not only decide what is best for him, but must learn what sort of self-sacrifice is most appropriate and accommodating for his family. Director: Michael Noer.
