On May 3, the King County Council approved the first awards from competitive grant programs passed as part of the 2019 Parks Levy, including a $2,744,278 grant for the Hazen High School Pool, a $481,050 grant for Coulon Park Picnic Floats and ADA Access, and a $100,000 grant for the Henry Moses Aquatic Center.

“All residents of King County should have access to outdoor spaces to swim, play, enjoy nature, and relax, but we know that residents in South King County don’t always have access to such spaces,” said King County Councilmember Dave Upthegrove. “With this county funding, Renton residents will soon be able to see improvements throughout our many park systems.”

These competitive grant programs are part of the voter-approved 2020-2025 Parks Levy and seek to assist public aquatic facilities through capital funding at any stage from feasibility studies through renovation and repair, as well as with open space acquisition, active recreation, passive recreation, and local trails.

“I am pleased to see these dollars invested in projects that expand opportunities for residents of the greater Renton area to get outside and stay active,” said King County Councilmember Reagan Dunn. “By improving our park facilities, we are creating better natural spaces for families and communities to enjoy and making it easier for folks to live balanced, healthy lifestyles.”

In August 2019, King County residents overwhelmingly supported the Parks Levy which provides funding support for parks and open space throughout the County.
