RENTON BLOTTER: Arson, bar fight and a drive-by shooting

The following information was compiled from City of Renton police reports:

Walgreens arson

A fire started in the cosmetic aisle of the Walgreens at 275 Rainier Ave. S. April 10.

No one witnessed the fire being set, but there were some juveniles running around the store shortly before it was discovered.

The fire department is investigating the case as an arson.

There was video taken of the incident.

Drive-by shooting

A drive-by shooting put a hole in a semi-truck windshield, while the driver was with his family inside his home March 29.

The night before the driver discovered a nickel-sized hole in his windshield, he heard an explosion outside.

He ran outside with his neighbors on the 18200 block of 10th Avenue Southeast at about 11 p.m. They thought maybe some kids were trying to blow up their mail boxes.

The next day he noticed the hole. Police later found the round in the cab of the truck.

The neighbor had security footage of the incident.

The driver described a silver or gold Lexus or Infinity pull up in front of his home, and then quickly drive off.

Copper theft

About $14,000 in copper wire was stolen from the City of Renton on 1100 block of South Third Street April 12.

It was pulled from the ground at three locations. The wires were secured by cement boxes with metal lids and locks.

Drunken driver

A 23-year-old woman passed out in her Pontiac G6 on the South Third Street just before the Sunset Boulevard North intersection.

She had a 0.17 percent blood alcohol level.

The officers noted her car was in drive with her foot on the break. Fearing she would wake up, let go of the break and roll into the intersection, an officer parked a patrol vehicle about a foot in front of the Pontiac.

He tapped the window and she woke up. Her car lurched in the patrol vehicle without damaging it.

She refused to get out of the car, even after police broke the back window to unlock the door.

The suspect finally complied. While in the patrol vehicle, she struggled to tell the police to turn down a softly playing radio, saying, “Can you turn my mind off, it’s loud.”

At the station, she threw up into a trash can. She was booked in jail for obstruction and DUI.

Bike robbery

A 12-year-old was robbed of his bike at the City Skate Park at 1402 Houser Way North April 6.

The suspect, in his late teens, pushed the kid off the bike and rode it down Houser Way at about 3 p.m.

His friends gave chase briefly but quickly fell behind.

Discharge of firearms

Neighbors on the 18200 block of 109th Avenue Southeast reported gunfire outside their homes April 6 at about 11:30 p.m.

Police found a .40-caliber bullet in the middle of the road. Neighbors reported a sedan driving off after the shots.

There were no reports of damage or injury.

Injured Husky dog

Animal control found an injured Husky dog with a pink collar on the 3200 block of Northeast Sunset Boulevard April 8.

The dog buried itself in ivy. It was lethargic and favoring its right leg.

It was given antibiotics at the Aerowood Animal Hospital and taken to a shelter.

Business break-in

The Little Peking Chinese Restaurant at 3217 N.E. Sunset Blvd. was broken into April 13.

A side glass door was shattered, but nothing appeared missing.

Bar fight, resisting arrest

Police responded to a fight outside the “R” Bar at 17178 116th Ave. S.E., April 6 at about 11 p.m.

When they arrived, they saw a man cuss and walk into the bar. The officer had reason to think he could be armed.

The man refused to stop when called, or fall to the ground. Instead, he turned around into a fighting stance.

The man began to struggle with the officers. The bartender walked to the doorway to prevent the man’s friends from entering.

An officer pulled out his baton and called for backup.

The two officers eventually handcuffed the man.

He had two warrants for his arrest.
