Suspect in weekend shooting charged with second-degree murder after victim dies

At about 2:23 a.m. Saturday morning, a woman called 911 stating that an adult male had been shot. Firefighters at Station 12 also heard gunshots and heard a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

The victim in a Sunday shooting in the 1400 block of Kirkland Avenue died Tuesday at Harborview hospital.

The suspect, Ortuno Perez, has been charged with second-degree murder with a firearms enhancement.

At about 2:23 a.m. Saturday morning, a woman called 911 stating that an adult male had been shot. Firefighters at Station 12 also heard gunshots and heard a vehicle leaving the area at a high rate of speed.

Responding officers discovered an adult male, identified as Jesus Castro, lying on the gravel driveway; he appeared to have been shot in the head.  He was transported to Harborview, and died there on Tuesday.

The investigation conducted by officers and detectives identified Perez asa s suspect in the case. Perez is alleged to have approached the victim as soon as he arrived at the location; a short conversation occurred prior to the suspect pulling out a small caliber gun and shooting the victim in the head.

The suspect was located by our Directed Enforcement and Special Emphasis Teams and taken into custody.
