Driver damages several vehicles near Renton Tech

No serious injuries were reported at the scene on 4th Street and Monroe Avenue.

A collision involving eight vehicles took place near Renton Technical College just before 4 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17.

Several Renton Police Department officers and an ambulance arrived on the scene at Northeast 4th Street and Monroe Avenue Northeast to find that a “lone driver” had struck the other vehicles.

According to Renton police, it appeared that the offending driver had driven between the two westbound lanes on 4th Street towards Monroe Avenue, striking cars in both lanes.

Police suspected that the offending driver was driving under the influence, which resulted in the suspect being placed on an involuntary hold for protective custody.

While all reported injuries at the scene were found to be minor, the offending driver was transported to Valley Medical Center.

According to officials, seven of the eight cars required tow trucks due to heavy damage caused by the collision and that westbound lanes were blocked in the aftermath, causing heavy congestion.
