Philip Arnold Park will be closed for construction starting Monday, Oct. 24 as the park will receive several improvements and renovations.
Philip Arnold Park is a triangular- shaped 10-acre, neighborhood park nestled between Jones Avenue South and Beacon Way SE, atop historic Renton Hill.
During construction, the park will be closed to the public and is expected to reopen in June 2023.
The planned improvements for the park include:
– Accessible looped walkway and boardwalk
– Playground replacement
– Parking renovation
– Activity building demolition
– New picnic shelters and paved parent plaza
– Portland Loo restroom
– Basketball court renovation
– Improved drainage and stormwater management
– New park signs
Throughout the design process for the new park improvements principles of crime prevention through environmental design were implemented by the planners.
The construction contract was awarded to Active Construction Inc. Funding for the project includes 2019 Renton Parks Bond funds, Parks Impact Mitigation Fees, 2019 King County Proposition No. 1 Parks, Recreation, Trails and Open Space Levy funding, and local funding.
