Hazen hosted a KingCo Girls wrestling exhibition meet on Tues. Dec 6. The Lindbergh Eagles had only three competitors the entire night, but went 3-0 in the opening matches. Lindbergh head coach Tim Ralston has a lot of pride in his three competitors.

“These girls come in, put in the work, and show up to work,” he said.

Ralston knows how his wrestlers compete, many coaches stand up and yell throughout their players matches. Ralston is more reserved and never gets out of his chair during his matches. He relies on the girl’s instincts to make their moves

“As these girls get more experience the more instinctual they become,” he said. “The goal is they know what to do before I can even get the words out of my mouth.”

That sentiment was echoed from Lindbergh junior Jasmin Cruz-Abarca.

“I motivate myself through the match, for me it’s not about strength but I do what my mind tells me to do,” she said.

Her match was the most exciting of the night — a back and forth contest that couldn’t be decided in the first three rounds tied 10-10.

It came down to overtime, and Cruz-Abarca got the key takedown and the points to win the match 13-10.

“It felt great, I now have more confidence … I am really proud of myself and how I performed,” Cruz-Abarca said.

Lindbergh and Hazen girls wrestling teams competed on Dec. 10 at Everett High school.

Meanwhile Renton’s next girls match was held Dec. 13 at Interlake High School.
