Multicultural Week, a valued tradition at Renton High School, returned to the stage earlier this month.

Every year, students come together and devote an entire week to celebrating the cultures, backgrounds and diversity that Renton students call home.

“It’s incredible to see the vast diversity of cultures represented here at Renton come together in such an inclusive community performance,” said Sara Khelghatian, who teaches IB Language and Literature and drama at Renton High School. Khelghatian is also the drama club advisor.

From a range of activities to performances and shared experiences, the students have an opportunity to share their cultural identities with the community. The school strives to recognize the diversity that Renton brings; this year, over 100 students participated in the events, highlighting more than 30 countries or global cultures.

“The student leadership this year was amazing. Group leaders took care of managing their teams and it made it so easy on us advisors,” said Khelghatian and Renton High School instructor Lurline Keopanya.

Both of the public shows on Friday, Feb. 10, and Sunday, Feb. 12, were nearly sold out, along with three in-school performances during the week.

“We truly strive for our school motto of ‘pride, tradition, and excellence,’” Khelghatian added. “We had so many alumni and past multi-performers return to show their support. It was overwhelming and we are so appreciative of their support.”
