Bob was 100 years, 4 months and 1 day when he reluctantly left this earth. He was a true Washington Boy. He was born in Coulee City to Lillie and Elmer Box, grew up in Zillah and lived his life in Renton and Bellevue.
Bob played every sport at Zillah High School, tried football at Washington State and ran track at Central Washington University. He was an avid golfer, and all his life he enjoyed and supported all local sports teams. He joyfully followed his two children through their many years of tennis.
After serving in the Army during WWII, Bob used the GI Bill to become an educator. Teaching in Renton at Highlands and BrynMar Elementary schools, Bob then earned his Master’s Degree at Columbia University and became principal at BrynMar, Hazelwood, HoneyDew, and Sierra Heights schools. He loved working with young children, and for 33 years never stopped advocating for students and teachers. After his first retirement, he spent 25 years as an insurance agent.
Bob loved to tell stories and had a remarkable memory for people, places and events. He was like his father, Elmer, who loved to meet and talk to anyone. Some stories did change over the years.
Bob was devoted to his wife Maxine, his son Rob and wife Jennifer and daughter Kristy and husband Greg Gopal. He adored his 4 grandchildren, Robby, Matthew and twin grandaughters Alyssa and Sarah Box.
Bob had a remarkable zest for living and loved his family and friends. We all miss him.
