Mayor, council member earn certificates in municipal leadership

Mayor Armondo Pavone and Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince were presented with a certificates of Municipal Leadership.

Two heads of Renton city government were awarded certificates showing their commitment to municipal leadership.

On June 26, Mayor Armondo Pavone and Renton City Councilmember Ed Prince were presented with a certificates of Municipal Leadership from the Association of Washington Cities (AWC) during a city council meeting.

Presented by Renton’s Deputy Chief Administrative Officer Kristi Rowland, the certificates recognize mayors and council members in Washington state who attend training sessions and conferences to better serve their communities, develop their leadership skills and strive for excellence.

Mayor Pavone has recieved his certificate after completing over 30 hours of trainings and attended workshops that focus on the following: Roles, responsibilities, and legal requirements; public sector resource management; diversity, equity, and inclusion; community planning and development; effective local leadership.

Councilmember Prince recieved an Advanced Certificate of Municipal Leadership, which means that he completed an additional 30 credits, which supports the AWC Certificate of Municipal Leadership he recieved in 2015.

“Being a city leader in Washington is a complex job,” said Deanna Dawson, CEO of AWC. “Through our Certificate of Municipal Leadership program, we are providing our local elected officials with the knowledge they need to effectively operate within the law, plan for the future, secure and manage funds, foster strong relationships, and work to build more equitable communities.”
