Space United partners with Family First Community Center to bring the Space & Soccer Summer Camp to Renton.

Former Seahawk Doug Baldwin’s Family First Community Center, which opened in June, will host the summer camp with three separate full-day sessions for kids in grades kindergarten through sixth. Session 1 will run from July 24 to July 28, Session 2 will be from July 31 to Aug. 4 and Session 3 will run from Aug. 8 to Aug. 12. The camp sessions will run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“We are so excited to launch our Space United Academy in our very own neighborhood and support our communities with the incredible team and vision behind the Family First Community Center”, said Space United’s Director of Communications and multilingual educator Emily Chow. “We are here to include our communities in the exciting possibilities in STEM and space by making it fun, relatable and memorable, and by giving them access to dynamic role models with similar backgrounds, cultures and of course the shared love of soccer!”

Space United is a global soccer organization founded by brothers Camilo and Sebastian Tobacia, Latino immigrants and former professional soccer players turned space engineers, whose mission is to use “the passion for soccer to uplift and include underrepresented communities in the future of STEM and space exploration.”

Space United, which was established in 2014 as SpaceX’s football club team, hopes to inspire youth interest in STEM and to establish a professional soccer club in the U.S.

The Tobacia Brothers launched the Space United Academy and its Space and Soccer Summer Camp on the same day with the goal of engaging children through “energetic instruction that teaches STEM concepts through soccer and hands-on space-themed activities and projects.”

Camp goers will get to interact and connect with several influential space guests, including rocket engineers from Blue Origin and SpaceX and a diverse group of astronauts.

The fee covers a Space United t-shirt, STEM Project materials, soccer training by coaches with national & international experience, entertaining technical talks led in partnership with educators and space professionals, meet and greets with astronauts and rocket scientists. Camp goers will also be introduced to the sport teqball, which is like a mix between table tennis and soccer.
