Seattle Latino Film Festival presents “Undocumented/Sin papeles”at Carco Theatre: Opening night of the 2023 Seattle Latino Film Festival will be at Renton’s Carco Theatre, with the North American premiere of Christian de la Cortina’s “Undocumented/Sin papeles.” The red carpet opens at 6:30 p.m. and the film will begin at 7 p.m. A reception with authentic Mexican cuisine will begin at 9:30 p.m. Tickets are available at slff.org at $75.69 for students and seniors and $107.49 for general admission.

Portraits with your Pooch at Weatherly Inn: From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., get a free fall portrait of you with your dog. The first 50 dogs will receive a special treat! Located at 4550 Talbot Road South in Renton. Call 425-577-1718 for more information.

Renton Mural Competition at Greenlake Senior Living: Come see eight local artists compete to create a wall art piece. The Renton American Legion Fred Hancock Post 19: This organization meets the second Tuesday of every month, except July and August, at 7 p.m. at the Post Hall (3224 NE 12th St.) in the Renton Highlands under the water tower. All veterans are welcome. Most vets are eligible for membership. America’s premier patriotic veterans’ organization and the prime driver of the original G. I. Bill, the Legion focuses on service to veterans, has influenced considerable social change in America, won hundreds of benefits for veterans and produced many important programs for the community, children and youth. Come join area vets. Meeting dates for 2023 are Oct. 10, Nov. 14, and Dec. 12.

Oct. 19

Café Vets: Monthly gathering of veterans and guests for coffee and refreshments hosted by Renton American Legion Post 19 and Auxiliary Unit 19 on the third Thursday of every month (except December) from 10 a.m. to noon. Come for coffee and camaraderie and goodies. Legion membership is not a requirement, though most veterans are eligible for membership. Post Service Officer will be on hand, in case someone needs assistance with a VA claim. No agenda, just veterans getting together with other veterans and their friends. Post Hall is in the Renton Highlands, under the water tower (3224 NE 12th St.).

Oct. 20

Truck or Treat Halloween Drive Thru at Renton Community Center: An alternative to regular trick-or-treating, this event will allow costumed patrons to collect candy from the comfort and safety of their vehicles. Registration is open through Oct. 19 (or until sold out) and will cost $15 for Renton residents and $18 for non-residents for the time slots. The event runs from 5 to 7:30 p.m., with the 5-5:45 p.m. slot slated to have reduced noise and flashing lights. Sign up at RentonWA.gov/register with the keyword “treat.”

Free Museum Day at the Renton History Museum: Enjoy the wonders of the past with free admission to the museum from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Free museum days are every first Wednesday and third Saturday of each month.

A Fall Family Concert featuring the Seattle Philharmonic Orchestra at Renton IKEA Performing Arts Center: Allied Arts of Renton and Renton Municipal Arts Commission present the annual fall family music concert. Tickets can be purchased at the door with cash, check, credit or debit card or be pre-purchased with cash or check at King & Bunny Appliance at 4608 Sunset Boulevard Northeast in Renton or L.A. Senior Holiday Craft Bazaar at Don Persson Renton Senior Activity Center: From 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., enjoy this all ages bazaar offers handcrafted items —perfect for Christmas and holiday presents — made by senior 50 and older throughout the area. Olde Fashioned Halloween Party at Gateway Park: This extra fun downtown Halloween party will be from 1 to 4 p.m. There will be a costume contest (for those on four-legs as well as two) games, vendors, candy and a chance to complete a riddle card game by finding all the clues throughout the downtown business-fronts.

KingCon at Renton Pavilion Event Center: A science, cosplay and gaming convention, KingCon is a family-oriented event that will go from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. on the first day and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on the second day. KingCon includes panels, special guests, a burlesque show, cosplay contests, prop contest, photography contest, comic book illustration contest, vendors, a video game competition and more. Saturdays, Oct. 7-28

Renton Parkrun at Cedar River Trail: This weekly 5K community event takes place every Saturday at 9 a.m. at the Cedar River Trail trailhead by the I-405 overpass. This free event does require registration but is meant to be a fun event where walkers, joggers, runners, volunteers and spectators can come together.
